Finding the right therapist

Finding the right person to talk to, is always the most important part of any therapy process. There are many different titles for therapists out there such as counsellors, CBT therapists, psychotherapists and psychologists.

I am a registered counsellor and draw upon different theories to help support you. I integrate person-centred, psychodynamic and existential approaches in my work to create a therapeutic process that is tailored specifically to you and your needs.

British Association For Counselling And Psychotherapy

One of the ways you can decide on a therapist, is to see if they belong to a professional body. This demonstrates they have undergone a certain level of training and study to support and help people.

I qualified on an accredited British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) course and now work as an Accredited Member of the BACP. This means I adhere to their ethical framework and have attained a required standard of practice to support you.

Professional Career And Experience

mental health

I’ve developed my private practice since 2020, offering a therapeutic space for individuals at my offices or online. I offer an individualised therapy service focusing on your specific needs and drawing upon a varied range of experience.

I began my career supporting young people who had challenging thoughts, such as hallucinations or delusions, as well as adults who experienced various forms of brain injury. My passion for supporting people progressed as I trained as a mental health nurse and worked in the NHS. I spent this time in various roles supporting people through quite distressing and dark times in their lives. This included working in mental health hospitals as well as helping people recovery from their difficulties in their own homes.

Over the years this passion has evolved and began focussing on working with people more therapeutically. In 2015 I began training as a counsellor at CPPD Counselling School in London.

Since this I have started my own therapy practice in Wetherby and York as well as getting involved in many exciting projects and organisations. Examples of these include coordinating a counselling service at a local charity; aiding student counsellors develop their therapeutic skills while on their own professional training programmes as well as offering university students 1:1 counselling sessions to provide emotional support through their academic studies. I’m always interested in expanding the breath of therapeutic work I do and keen to get involved in different projects.

York and Wetherby

I work from two comfortable rooms in my private practice. One on Wetherby High Street and the other at Clifton Moor in York

Fees

Initial appointments and ongoing therapy sessions cost £50 for 50 minutes. I also offer reduced rates if you are able to commit to weekly sessions over the month
