The Initial Appointment
We would meet for an initial 50 minute appointment where I can find out more about you and explain how counselling and therapy would work with me.
It’s a relaxed and informal meeting, where you will have the opportunity to describe some of the difficulties you are experiencing and ask any questions.
If you find the idea of starting therapy daunting, we will take it very slowly, there is no rush. I have years of experience and am skilled at empathetically understanding what is troubling you.
At the end of the initial appointment you can go away and decide if you want to start some ongoing therapy with me. If you do, we will then make a plan as to what type of therapeutic work I can offer you and what best suits your needs.

The Sessions
We meet at the same time each week (or fortnight) for 50 minutes, and begin to understand what is troubling you. I am a non-judgemental counsellor and give you space to talk through whatever is on your mind. Once we have a fuller understanding of your challenges, we then start working together to find ways of improve what is happening for you.
I offer both short term counselling and longer term therapy. Short term counselling is more focussed, lasts for 6 to 12 sessions and addresses a specific issue or event that is distressing. Longer term therapy work can be ongoing for months or years and may involve more ingrained issues, including exploring childhood to see how your life has lead to the current challenges you are facing. I provide this all with a supportive and empathic approach.
We decide together whether short term counselling or longer term therapy would be most suitable for you as well as what you can expect to get out of meeting with me more generally. Although therapy can be hard and challenging at times, we will work at your pace to find ways to improve your situation.
The Therapy Rooms
I mainly offer in-person sessions at either of my two comfortable offices in Wetherby and York.
I occasionally offer online sessions on a temporary basis. If this is something you are looking for, then please get in touch for more details.
